Energy Efficient Aircraft technologies for low drag, low weight and low specific fuel consumption are more important than ever to master the challenge towards more sustainable flight. Significant efficiency improvements are mandatory to reduce the fuel consumption for next generation aircraft. Its to drastically reduce the CO2-impact from still fossile kerosene based propulsion in nearer future. For mid & longer term it is to mitigate the drawback from the significant affordability challenge of novel zero emission fuels (SAF or H2). The aim is to have significant benefits "up to the limits of physics" for the global warming impact of aviation matured even ahead of the larger scale enrollment of sustainable fuels. But what is reaslistic ? Full compliance in terms of certifiability, manageable manufacturing cost and full operational compatibility to the air transport system are crucial requirements to ensure economically viable future products. How to overcome these challenges ?
On this workshop a group of experts from the DGLR Topic Area L2 (Manned Aircraft) out of DLR, Airbus, Bauhaus Luftfahrt and Universities present and discuss the challenges and opportunities in short lectures and pitches. It will be followed by an extensive podium discussion with the lectures and the audience in order to echange common and diverging views and to scope ways forward. You certainly have a view ! Join us to at this place to discuss, share opinions, and bring in your thoughts as part of the community.
