Aviation & Society - Quo Vadis ?
Yes: Aviation is an invaluable asset for the global society ! It’s a key enabler for global travel, global business, global cooperation. It connects people and countries and is a key driver of global wealth !
And yes: Aviation is a key challenge for the global society ! Aviation is an explicit contributor to global warming and poses visible challenges to neighborhoods with its infrastructure requirements and its impact on air quality and noise !
So: The outlook is "bright": Air Travel is predicted to continue to grow significantly. At the same time the aviation industry sector has committed itself to net zero in 2050.
So, can we carry on as we’ve done in the last decades and simply "scale up the system" ? Certainly not. But how to "foster the good" and "mitigate the challenges" ?
We have means in hand: Technologically we have new and innovative solutions, but also we rethink how we will travel and in general how we will use Air Travel as a society in a systemic way.
The DGLR is the home of the scientific-technical community "who knows best on aviation". So: lets actively discuss and exchange in this forum.
You are invited to an open session organized by members of the DGLR Senate & Young Senate to tackle the "master questions that are in the air".
